Shaving bumps are very common to men with hair that is either coarse or curly, or both. Shaving bumps appear to be red and irritate the skin, and cause pain to the individual. They occur when hair on the body exits the skin, curls over and grows into the skin around it. From this, a bump arises, and is very difficult to treat. Shaving over this bump is not a good idea either, for it will just worsen the situation and cause more pain and irritation. In order to cure these shaving bumps, one can let the hair grow long enough for it to grow out of its follicular opening. There are many steps one can take to prevent shaving bumps, or razor bumps. First, you can use a facial scrub so that the hairs on your skin can be raised and separated from the skin. Place your skin under hot water for at least a few minutes, so that the hair will become softer and moistened. Also, shave in the direction of the hair growth, not against. Shaving against the direction of the hair growth can cause severe irritation, ingrown hairs, as well as shaving bumps. Avoid repeating the same stroke over the same exact area, for it can irritate the skin and cause the bumps to occur. It is also a good idea to change your razor blades every so often, so that you do not apply a dull blade over your skin, for this can drag your skin and damage it.
